Hong Kong Trip crossing over from 2009 to 2010

Back from Hong Kong on 3rd Jan 2010, felt that I couldn’t get used to the weather here. I enjoyed the 18 degree Celsius temperature in Hong Kong and found it hot in Singapore even it was about 25 degree Celsius.

It was my first countdown in overseas and with Tiong-san. A different kind of fireworks show over the Hong Kong island and the main attention was focus on IFC tower, the tallest building in Hong Kong. It was a crazy night, people mostly youngster were celebrating madly. We had a hard time to go back hotel, was a good experience on how Hong Kong citizens spent their countdown.

I have an emotional visit to the Big Buddha in Lantau Island. Probably it was a foggy day and the Buddha was hidden in the fog. In order to see, the only way is to climb the long stairs all the way. Along the way to go up, I thought of the past of my endometriosis. Holding Tiong-San hands, I know that was over. I felt his support and encouragement to get me to the end. Our yearning for a child was strong at that moment. When we reached at the feet of the Buddha, I glad and touched, at the same time feeling comfort to be close to Him. It was an amazing journey and fortunate to have Tiong-san all these times.

It was Tiong-san first time in Hong Kong and we tried to cover as much places as possible in our 5 days Free & Easy trip. We went to Peak and Lan Kwai Fong on our first night. Din get to c any hong kong stars. The next day took the 360 degree cable car to Lantau and back to Tung Chung citygate shopping centre for some shopping and countdown at the harborcity side. On New Year day, we went out late to Ocean Park and spent the whole day there. Later part at night, we spent time at Causeway Bay and found a very nice local claypot cuisine for dinner. But the location of the dinner was at a small alley, beside the roadside. You can imagine eating at the roadside in unclean condition. But to experience eating like a Hong Kong citizen was indeed fun and memorable. Thanks to Tiong-san’s navigation skills. On the 2nd last day, we went to Tsim sha Tshui to eat and shop for the whole day. The population was so dense, everywhere was just packed. By the night, we settle our seafood dinner at Temple street. It was delicious and the price was around Singapore cze char price. The next day, we did our last minute shopping at easyshop and H&M before heading to airport.

I think my preference for fireworks is more towards Singapore, cos my fav meteor-like shower was not seen in Hong Kong. Now I appreciate more on the fireworks back home.

Mood in office today....

Today seems an emotional day to start 2nd week of 2010. The news of my director passed away on 9 Jan broke off in the office. Deputy Director was pretty affected by her death and to us, it was too sudden accept. Last Friday, unofficial news was announced she will be retiring on Feb and over a weekend the status changed.

The mood in the office is surreal of solemnity and quietness.
